Year after year - post 9-11 - 40% of all new jobs in America were created in real estate related fields.

Some time ago - the whole real estate industry jumped out of a window.

Just a quick thought -

Unemployment numbers skyrocketed recently - the largest one month increase in nearly three decades!  That’s bad.

What’s terrible is that it is worse than what the “numbers”  acknowledge.  No one is talking about this…

Not included in the swelling unemployment ranks are the tens and hundreds of thousands of real estate professionals who aren’t technically “unemployed”. 

That’s the realtor with no buyers and sellers - the loan officer with no borrowers - the appraiser with no “pending” homes to appraise or refinance transactions to work (values are down and rates are up).  Then there’s home inspectors - title company closers and staff and all the trades people - contractors who are idle.

If you’re still in the business - and doing well - I would recommend you do like I have and prepare for a long winter.  I am not just talking about the seasonal fluctuations we see in real estate - slow winter months in the North - slow summers in the South. 

Where I am from we have a joke - we only have two seasons.  We have winter - which lasts 10 months - and real estate - which lasts 2. 

This hibernation is different.  I mean a long sabaticle in the overall activity level of the industry - for years.

If you aren’t making it in real estate right now - I say get serious - real fast.  Or get out.

In fact - that’s what most should do.

No matter how good or miserable it is for you in business now - there’s one overriding reason almost all of us got into real estate.  Freedom.  Money is good - especially when it is there.  Freedom is priceless. 

I’ve worked thousands of sixteen hour days in my business that seem lighter than two hour days at a regular job.  Not because what I do is EASY - it isn’t.  For many of us - we can’t stomach the thought of taking an average paying job.  Even struggling and eeking by is almost preferable.  But - it is no FUN - either. 

Hundreds of thousands struggle and writhe to hang in there.  40% of all new jobs created for years - plus all the existing jobs out there previous - are all in serious jeopardy.  Many won’t make it.

Those who do and those who don’t will all be looking for a common denominator real estate professionals all yearn - FREEDOM.  Only a few care about getting seriously RICH - some will - that is always possible in this land.  Whether real estate professionals want to make a little “extra” money or a lot - what they both require is FREEDOM. 

That’s who we are.

There’s a way to do it - but you will need to figure it out for yourself fast - and you might need good direction. 

You already know there are a lot of dead end opportunities.  Some are so desperate - they will follow anyway. 

In any economy - there is opportunity.  In this economy - its about sifting the countless phony ones from the real ones.
